April 14, 2010

I'am reading the book Precious based on the novel PUSH by Sapphire. This strory has strongly affected me, it has made me realalize that my life isn't as bad as I make it out to be. The thing I noticed about the text is that Sapphire wrote the novel in the way that precious talks. I think that gives the reader a better understand of the struggle that she has has reading and writting. This novel has stired up many emotions within in me, it's really sad me to read. That a human being, a mother could treat her own child and grandchildren that way. it also makes me sad because it's children all over the world that get treated the same way or worse. I learned from this novel that everyone has a purpose in life and God has put all of here to help someone realize their selfworth. I learned that forgiveness is important, you can't live life with hate in your heart.

week 5

the reading that I have done so far hasn't really effected me. There's nothing I can relate to. There was one situation in the story where I was on edge, when the detectives came to Micah's home. I thought they had linked her to Zach's death, or that they had some more bad news. there was something that really caught my attention, it was her dangerous word class. I thought that would be a really cool class to take. The more I read, it became strange to me that its not to much said about Zach's family and how they responded to his dissaperance and death. it was stange that the teachers or students or close friends didn't mentioned them.

Liar, Justine Larbalestier, Week 4

This character's name is Micah Wilkins and she is compulsive liar. This character is very deceiving because she convinced everyone on her first day of school that she was born a male. She also told them that she was born a hermaprodite. I feel that Micah can control her compulsive lying because after she lies, her conscience always contradicts her lies. The idea that I have about her from my reading so far is that she is not close to her mother nor her little brother. The only person Micah trusts is her teacher Yayeko Shoji. I feel that she only trusts her teacher and her father. Micah blames her compulsive lying on her "family disease." She is a very misunderstood person.

In my opinion, Micah gets critisizm because she is a compulsive liar and she seems not to care about the feelings of the people she is lying to. When someone makes up a lie about her, she does not correct it because she likes the attention. This goes back to how I stated earlier about how much of a deceiving person Micah is. I also believe that Micah can receive praise. For example, after Zach Rubin was murdered, everyone at school accused her of killing him. Micah still continuously came to school after being called a freak, murderer, and liar. A student by the name of Brandon Duncan harassed her constantly and she still had the courage to come to school. Also, another student named Sara Washington followed Micah home, but Micah had the courage to face Sara and talk about Zach Rubin.
